6 am start followed by a seven hour drive, only 250 k but the driver decided he wanted to take us to his house for a cup of chai. ( he actually went for a gentlemans sit down and a change of clothes but i'm not cynical!)
Arrived at Jaipur - the Pink City (painted pink for the arrival of the Prince of Wales in 19th C)
1. Amber Fort -Very impressive 16th C fort built by Maharaja Man Singh as a palace including a 18km defensive wall over the surrounding mountains. Also plenty of room for his 12 dorri
2. Textile store - attempted rip off, well navigated by Sally who explained she could get the same crap in Tooting for half the price
3.Nahargarh Fort -Only 9 Apartments for this Maharaja's Concubines
4. Lake Palace -Does what it says on the tin
Day 5
Driver went on the lash night before and our early start was delayed by key searching. Sacked him off and jumped in a Auto Rickshaw into centre of town. Met our guide , Shohan who took us to
1. Palace of Winds - basically a very impressive viewing Platform for Maharani'
2. Jantar Mantar - Observatory/Astrological instruments -High tech for its age
3. City Palace - Still owned by the current Maharaja
4. Albert Hall - Museum
Think we need to get a grip of our Driver, Mr Yogish aka Paul. I had to dish out a stern team talk yesterday after Sally had a Dorris Meltdown at a roadside Cafe so think he might be singing off the same song sheet now.
Food is good but severe lack of meat and anything alcoholic but thats not a bad thing.
Early night, early start for a 7 hour drive to Jodphur. Will try and put a few phots below.
